The Eldership: What? The Work Of The Elders

We have been working our way through the New Testament passages that address the subject of elders in the church as we prepare for the election of new elders in Railway Street in 2021. We have looked at the biblical basis for the eldership and we have studied the qualities and characteristics that we are to look for in those who serve as elders.
Today we turn to think about the work of the eldership - what is that elders are actually called to do? In Acts 20 we are blessed to have an account of the farewell charge that Paul gave to the elders from the church in Ephesus.

The Eldership: Who? The Qualities Of The Elder (Part 2)

Last time we looked at the qualities the Apostle Paul told Timothy and Titus to look for as they sought to appoint elders in the churches under their care.
Today we turn to look at what the Apostle Peter has to say about the eldership in his first letter. Here Peter identifies several qualities that the elder in the church of Jesus Christ should demonstrate in terms of being a good shepherd of God’s flock.
As you listen this morning who can you think of in the Railway Street church family who models these qualities?

The Eldership: New Elders - Why?

The congregation has asked and received from the Presbytery of Dromore permission to elect new elders in Railway Street. This is a very important occasion in the life of the congregation. It affords to those of you who are voting members the opportunity to seek God’s will for the future spiritual leadership of our congregation. It also lays a spiritual responsibility upon your shoulders and so it should be approached with much thought and prayer.
Today we begin a series of messages looking at the Bible’s teaching about the Eldership. We start by asking why do we need elders in the church and why are we doing this now considering everything else that is going on in the world?
