The Eldership: Who? The Qualities Of The Elder (Part 2)

Last time we looked at the qualities the Apostle Paul told Timothy and Titus to look for as they sought to appoint elders in the churches under their care.
Today we turn to look at what the Apostle Peter has to say about the eldership in his first letter. Here Peter identifies several qualities that the elder in the church of Jesus Christ should demonstrate in terms of being a good shepherd of God’s flock.
As you listen this morning who can you think of in the Railway Street church family who models these qualities?

Message Points:

  1. Readiness Not Reluctance
  2. Service Not Selfishness
  3. Personal Example Not Power

Application & Response:

  1. Who can you identify in our church family that you think would make a good shepherd over the flock of God in this place?

  2. What qualities do so you see in their lives that match up with Peter has to say here?

  3. Continue to pray for God’s sovereign will to be done throughout this whole process and pray that those in the church family that you are identifying as having the necessary qualities will be willing to serve if called to do so.
