'Unity & Diversity Part Two'

As we have seen the church in Rome was a culturally diverse congregation- it included believers from both Jewish and Gentile backgrounds. As a result there were tensions over secondary issues that were threatening the unity of the church. In chapter 14 Paul is seeking to address this. We see how Paul calls for unity in the midst of our diversity and establishes the following theological truths:

1.God has accepted us and so we must accept one another.
2.Christ has died to become their Lord and ours.
3.We are now brothers and sisters in Christ.
4.We will all stand before God judgement seat.

In the second half of chapter 14 Paul offer additional practical guidance on how we maintain the unity Christ desires in his church in the face of the diversity that exists within it.

Main Points:

  1. Determine not be the cause of another stumbling
  2. Determine to live as citizens of the Kingdom of God
  3. Determine to pursue peace and mutual benefit
