We come this morning to look at the last of Jesus' parables recorded in Matthew 13. We need first of all to remind ourselves that these parables are stories seeking to describe the Kingdom of Heaven. Some of them teach us about the nature of the Kingdom. While the two we looked at last week - the hidden treasure in the field and the pearl of great price were about the value of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Parable of the Net reminds us of something very important about the nature of the of the visible church of Christ - His chosen instrument for helping to proclaim and build the kingdom of heaven. It also tells us that final coming of Christ's Kingdom will involve judgement and separation.
Main Points:
- We need to recognise the reality of the mixed nature of the visible church.
- We need to recognise the reality of the sorting and separation to come.
- We need to recognise Who will do the work of sorting and separating.
