'Can Such Faith Save You?'

James 2:14-26

In chapters one and two, James stressed the importance of obeying God's Word and in particular the 'royal law' ('love your neighbour as yourself'), especially in relation to the poor and marginalised.
Now he challenges the unspoken assumptions of his readers that they can avoid fulfilling the royal law since they are saved by faith. A genuine, living faith is only manifested by the actions it produces. Otherwise, it is a dead faith, like a body without a spirit.
Disobeying the 'royal law' is not an option.

Opening:

As we come to worship we join in the words of 'This I Believe (The Creed)'.

Message Points:

  1. Obeying and disobeying the 'royal law'
  2. Works are an essential part of faith
  3. Faith without works is dead

Questions For Application:

  1. To what degree are you prone to use your faith as an excuse for not obeying God's Word? Are there any recent examples of that in your life?

  2. What aspects of the 'royal law' (love your neighbour as yourself) do you find most difficult?

  3. How does your faith impact the way you live and behave?

Closing:

As we conclude let’s use the song 'Lord I Come To You'.
