'More Than Listening'

Psalm 91

We have seen that as disciples of Jesus Christ we are to expect trials and temptations to come our way.
But where do we find the practical resources we need to help us persevere and grow?
This is James’ concern in our passage today.

Opening:

As we come to worship we join in the words of this great hymn 'Praise to the Lord'.

As we prepare our hearts to hear God’s Word let’s use the words of 'Speak O Lord'.

Response:

Questions for application:

  1. "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." In what situations do you find one (or more) of these commands especially difficult?

  2. Do you need to see God’s word differently, or make practical changes in order to become a better listener?

  3. How have you experienced obedience leading to blessing and freedom in your own life? How can you use that past experience to encourage present obedience?

Closing:

As we conclude let’s use the words of Keith Getty’s song 'O Church Arise'.
