Psalm 91

Today as we continue our new series on James we look at the danger of being deceived.
Painful personal experience tells us that we are all capable of being deceived by others but it is also possible for us to deceive themselves. So we will look at a couple of things James does not want us to be deceived about. Then we find that the best antidote to self deception is to embrace truth and in particular to remind ourselves of who our God is and what He is like.

Opening:

As we come to worship we will use the words of Only A Holy God.

Message Points:

  1. Do Not Deceived Regarding Wealth
  2. Do Not Be Deceived Regarding Temptation
  3. Remember God’s Good & Generous Nature

Response:

Questions for application:

  1. In what ways can you see that you let your material resources define you and give you security rather than who you are in Christ?

  2. What temptations are you regularly struggling with (or giving in to) at the moment?

  3. How does the description of God in verses 17-18 motivate you to resist those temptations? And how does it reassure you when you fail?

Closing:

We close with the UK version of the Blessing which has gone viral since its release last week.
